Burak Çolak

  Born in Istanbul in 1985. He began his art education at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts in 2009 and graduated with High Honors from the Department of Plastic Arts at Yeditepe University in 2017.  

  Focusing on abstract figurative painting in his early works, Çolak gradually developed a visual language that explores the relationship between the figure, space and surface. His process often begins with accidental traces, marks, and encounters on the surface; as the work develops, these elements connect with one another and establish their own internal order. The painting  therefore evolves not as a fixed, predetermined composition but as a structure formed through relationships.In his current practice,

   In his current practice, Çolak examines the mutual transformation between the human figure and space. He approaches the body not only as a physical form, but as a structure shaped by memory, experience, and environment. Houses, figures, lines and traces on the surface cease to function as separate elements and become an interconnected whole in which each part shapes the meaning and presence of the others. Space is therefore treated not merely as a background but as an extension of the human mind and emotional experience.  

  Çolak’s artworks have been exhibited at Evin Art Gallery, Mixer Art Gallery, BASE, Çanakkale Piri Reis Museum, Istanbul Archaeological Museums, Pera Museum and CerModern, as well as internationally at Van Der Plas Gallery in New York.
